A couple of years ago, I wrote a blog post for the project Chameleon to describe my transition from a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions funded Early Career Researcher to a supervisor. Reflecting on leadership and the relationships between Ph.D. "students" and supervisors motivated me to revisit this blog post and repost it.

A Ph.D. "student" can only follow my advice in that blog if they are in a supportive environment. If the environment is focused on titles and the local culture apotheosizes professors, it is more difficult for a Ph.D. "student" to receive support to explore academia and sketch their own career trajectory independently from "their" professor.
