ACM-W Gothernburg

ACM stands for the Association for Computing Machinery. Traditionally, ACM is a research publisher in engineering, interaction design, information systems, and more. ACM-W is a framework where towns have Women's Chapters. The chapters act as network hubs to promote career development, networking opportunities, mentorship, and support to women in the field (industry and academia) of computing.

ACM-W Gothenburg started in 2025 and is run by volunteers. We have no membership fees, and no ACM membership is needed to be part of the network. We have organised networking events, mentorship sessions, educational sessions, and workshops related to work environments from the perspective of women in computing. Centre for Inclusive Studies, INCLUDE, is an interdisciplinary and international network of people working to advance research and innovation on Inclusion, Participation, Accessibility, and Equality at local, national, and international levels. The network base is the University of Borås, Sweden.

DORA

The San Francisco Declaration on Research Assessment (DORA) is a global initiative aimed at reforming how research and researchers are evaluated. It advocates for assessing research on its own merit rather than relying on journal-based metrics, such as impact factors, for hiring, promotion, and funding decisions.

Aim: Develop an app to support people with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) to manage their fatigue.
My tasks: User Research, Speculative design/forecasting, low-fi prototyping, lead low-fi prototype evaluation.

Originally, we worked to develop an app for fatigue management for people with MS. The app was designed, developed, and piloted. The second iteration focused on bridging the people around the person with MS with the plan to expand it to get integrated into the healthcare system. Future features would be to (1) visualise the availability of the person with MS based on their fatigue levels, to show when they are ready to socialise with friends and family (needs of people with MS), and (2) to visualise the data to healthcare professionals, to understand which activities take and which activities give energy for them to support their patients in a more person-centric and personalised manner (healthcare profecionals needs).

Aim: to understand and claster people's (office workers) movement for preventing injuries and for giving personalised advices. My role: Expert in translating motivational and behavior change theories into digital features. 

The technology of the project was divided into three parts: (1) the scanner, which scanned how people moved, (2) the AI-driven backend, which clustered the different movements and flagged for potential future or current injuries, and (3) the user part where one could see their scans in details together with their problematic movments, which areas of their body are overused, and what they need to do to reduce pain and the risk for future injuries. As an add-on, the user part had theory-based features designed to motivate them to take actions to reduce pain or the risk of future injuries. Aim: to co-design a diary app for wheelchair users with spinal cord injury (SCI). 
My tasks: I led the original investigation of the tracking needs of wheelchair users with SCI, planed and co-led the participatory design sessions and led the evaluation.

The app had (1) to act as a diary, where people with SCI could record manually some of their needs, such as pressure releases, bladder emptying, pain, spasticity, urinary tract infections, pressure ulcers, etc, and get reminders when needed to report or do their pressure releases and (2) to connect with a commercial tracker which the person with SCI wore, an extra software was installed on the tracker which could calculate acuretly the energy burn of a person with reduced lower body mass - a long term wheelchair users whose leg muscles have been reduced de to inactivity. Aim: To understand how social comparison that does not evoke competition influences the behavior of people who want to quit smoking. My role: I was leading the study. I designed the features and comparisons and conducted the app evaluation. 

This was a mini-study I led and developed. Comparing with others was usually perceived as competing against others. I wanted to understand the impact of comparison when it did not promote competition. The users had to register every night how many cigarettes they smoked, and they could choose to do comparisons with people who smoked more, less, or similar to them. They could also choose to compare with aggregated data, such as the average, or to pick one person and compare with them.
